A Nova Scotia teacher and soccer enthusiast has pleaded guilty to invitation to sexual touching involving a teen student.
Sarah Allt Harnish, 36, is also charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. The gym coach at Five Bridges Junior High in Hubley had been slated to go on trial next week.
Cops say the assaults involved one male student and occurred between September 2015 and March 2016.
Before she was suspended, Harnish taught Grade 9 English, social studies and French immersion at the school.
In addition, Harnish coaches soccer in the Halifax area and is on leave from her role with Halifax County United Soccer. The footie fancier was also an assistant coach for the Mount Saint Vincent University's women's soccer team.
She’s back in court April 14 for sentencing. The two outstanding charges will be dealt with then.
Meanwhile, the Crown is appealing the light sentence given to another naughty teacher in Nova Scotia.
Amy Hood was sentenced to house arrest for a pair of sex crimes involving two boys. She confessed to exchanging sexually explicit texts with the boys and performing oral sex on one.
Last month, Judge Del Atwood sentenced the teaching temptress to 15 months of house arrest followed by two years of probation. Atwood rejected the mandatory minimum claiming a harsher sentence would violate her charter rights.
The Crown says the tap on the wrist doesn’t reflect the gravity of Hood’s crimes. They want Hood sentenced to two years in prison.
