TORONTO -

Sometimes a change is as good as a rest.

The TTC has unveiled images of its newly designed bus fleet that matches the colour scheme of the latest generation streetcars.

Spokesman Brad Ross tweeted on Wednesday that the new design will be applied to newly acquired buses, along with “those buses that were rebuilt and needed a new paint job.”

Meanwhile, the TTC Board gave the green light to purchase 285 new 12-metre (40-foot) low floor buses.

The first batch from Nova Bus will be delivered by next year. Another 40 will follow in 2018. The buses will replace some of the TTC’s ageing fleet of 1,920 buses.

Half the cash for the buses came from the federal government’s Public Transit Infrastructure Fund — which provides up to 50% of funding for eligible projects — with the city providing matching funds.
