Man sought in armed sex assault near Yonge-Gerrard
A suspect wanted in a Nov. 5, 2016 sexual assault and robbery investigation is pictured in this Toronto Police Services security image.
Investigators have zeroed in on a suspect in the violent sex attack of a young woman in the heart of the city earlier this month.
Toronto Police say a man armed with a gun physically and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman near Gerrard and Yonge Sts. around 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 5.
“Subsequent to the assault, the man forcibly removed the woman’s belongings,” Det.-Const. Matthew Pinfold, of the Sex Crimes Unit, said Tuesday.
The man fled west along Gerrard St. after the attack.
Police have now released security video from a nearby hotel of a suspect.
The footage shows a man wandering through the hotel wearing a purple tracksuit, black jacket with a hood, a dark baseball cap with a light-coloured brim, and black shoes.
He is seen casually lounging in a chair in the lobby and seems to get directions from a hotel cleaning staffer before disappearing into an elevator.
The man is believed to be in his early 20s, about six feet tall, with an olive complexion and skinny build.
“If he is located, do not approach,” Pinfold cautioned. “Call 911 immediately.”
He said the wanted man may be armed with a firearm and is believed to be “violent and dangerous.”
